Sony today announced the latest additions to its Xperia smartphone line and confirmed that the devices--the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact--will be the first phones ever to support PlayStation 4 Remote Play.
What that means is you'll be able to play PS4 games directly on your smartphone over a Wi-Fi network. To hold your smartphone in place, Sony will also sell a special GCM10 Game Control Mount, though pricing has not been revealed.
The Verge reports that PS4 Remote Play on one of Sony's new smartphones over a network connection is "theoretically" possible, but no doubt the best experience will come over Wi-Fi.
In addition, you can use the existing PlayStation App on either of the new devices to use them as a second screen to remotely watch gameplay, track what friends are up to on the PlayStation Network, or purchase titles to download on your PS4.
Sony also today revealed a new 8-inch Xperia Z3 tablet, which will support PS4 Remote Play.
The new Xperia Z3 (5.2") and Xperia Z3 Compact (4.6") smartphones will launch in November, though pricing has not been announced. For more on the new phones and what they offer, check out GameSpot sister site CNET's comprehensive coverage.

The release date was announced via the British retail chain GAME on its Twitter feed, though international dates were not specified.
By convention, it would suggest that Project Cars' release date across North America would fall on Tuesday, November 18, but publisher Namco Bandai has not confirmed this and was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
Project Cars features highly detailed vehicles with a focus on racing simulation, much like the Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo series.
It will ship first on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with the PC and Wii U versions delayed until an unspecified date in 2015. The PC version will also carry Oculus Rift support, making it one of the first racing games to support virtual reality.

Tech news site Re/code reports, based on several unspecified sources, that Ouya is in "preliminary acquisition talks" with companies in China and the United States.
These discussions are only just getting off the ground, but sources told the site that Ouya is more likely to pursue a sale than opt to seek additional funds by raising money. Re/code reports that no offers from any companies to buy Ouya have been made, but talks are moving forward.
Ouya is reportedly in buyout discussions with Chinese companies Xiaomi (the company Ouya aligned with to launch the console in China), as well as massive Internet company Tencent. That company has made numerous gaming investments to date, and currently owns 40 percent of Gears of War creator Epic Games.
Ouya has also spoken with Google and Amazon--which already has its own gaming platform in the form of Amazon Fire TV--about a potential buyout, according to the sources. Importantly, such a deal would be for Ouya staff talent, and not necessarily the console itself, Re/code says.
We have reached out to Ouya for comment, and will update this story with anything we hear back.
The Ouya console launched last summer after high-profile Kickstarter campaign in 2012 raised $8.6 million, the third biggest campaign in the platform's history. The console, however, has failed to gather much traction, even after new initiatives like a $1 million Free The Games Fund and the removal of the free trial requirement for games.

Gear VR stands out for its use of the newly revealed Galaxy Note 4. The enlarged smartphone slots into the helmet's micro-USB dock and acts as the screen.
Paired with the helmet's adjustable lenses, which are built into the headset, the Galaxy Note 4's accelerometer and gyrometer are used to track head movement, thus creating a virtual reality impression.
Together these parts create a unique wireless VR headset that doesn't need to be tied to a PC, though it also means the Gear VR cannot yet measure depth.
According to a preview by Engadget, the lack of depth is a particular negative aspect, as is the Note's relatively low processing and graphical capabilities.
The software for Gear VR was created by Oculus VR, the pioneering team that sparked the rebirth of virtual reality with its Oculus Rift headset.
According to an update on the Oculus Blog, the whole initiative began "as an experiment to see if great VR was possible on next-generation mobile hardware".
It added: "Oculus CTO John Carmack and the mobile team at Oculus were able to blow everyone away in an extremely short amount of time, quickly proving that we were on to something special."
Samsung says an early 'Innovation Edition' of the Gear VR will launch across North America this year. Exact release times, and international plans, have yet to be revealed.
The Galaxy Note 4 provides a 5.7 inch 1440p screen, while the Oculus Mobile SDK is said to optimise the smartphone's GPU.
One key feature for the new headset is Oculus Cinema - a virtual movie theater, allowing users to play their favorite 2D and 3D movies in a variety of theater environments.
The Oculus team was also keen to state that work on the mobile project "doesn't change our plans for the Rift or our commitment to (and love for) the PC".

Though the 3DS title first shipped in Japan back in May 2013, localisation work meant the North America release was delayed to July.
Now some fourteen months later, Atlus says the medieval themed RPG will not arrive in Europe until "late October".
John Hardin, a representative for Atlus in the US, wrote on Twitter that the extended delay was due to unforeseen complications.
"We encountered a few last-minute issues specific to the EU version, and we have to fix them," he explained.
"Given the current timelines for production, it looks like SMTIV won't be out in EU until late October."
Hardin says the team at Atlus feels "awful" for delaying the game further, but hoped that fans could remain patient.
"No one likes delays. Our fans in Europe have been waiting for SMTIV for a very long time, and it pains us to have to move the release date back even further," he wrote.
"I have talked to a few of you on Twitter, I've seen the angry posts on Reddit, NeoGAF, Facebook, etc, and wanted to be as direct as I could. We truly feel awful having to say 'wait a little longer' for a game you've been so zealously patient for, but there is no other recourse. We're doing everything we can to get the game out in Europe as fast as we can, so please bear with us."
GameSpot's Shin Megami Tensei 4 review was largely positive about the title. The review described the game as boasting "a wonderfully twisted world filled with surprises."

He said as much on Twitter this morning, explaining that development on the project is nearly finished ahead of its release for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC (but not Wii U) on November 4.
Sledgehammer Games' other founder, Michael Condrey, also chimed in to say he's getting excited about the forthcoming launch of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Prior to establishing Sledgehammer Games, Schofield and Condrey collaborated to create the Dead Space series for Electronic Arts. Schofield and Condrey's previous development credits include various games based on major licenses like Lord of the Rings and James Bond.
Sledgehammer Games formally unveiled Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's multiplayer mode during Gamescom last month, showing off how the game-changing exosuits affect head-to-head matches. However, we still have more to learn about the game before its release. One major mode Sledgehammer Games has not talked about yet officially is co-op.

The company dropped the quote as part of a "shareholder outreach" document filed this week with the United States Securities & Exchange Commission.
Red Dead Redemption has shipped more than 13 million copies to date, and is one of ten Take-Two franchises that has sold-in more than 5 million copies during its lifetime. The game was adored by critics at release, and currently has a 95 rating on GameSpot sister site Metacritic.
Though there is no word yet on a potential sequel, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously described Red Dead Redemption as a "permanent" franchise like the James Bond movie series, suggesting 2010's installment won't be the last. Development on that title was led by Rockstar San Diego, which appears to be staffing up for a big project. The studio is currently looking to fill a total of 37 positions, 28 of which are labeled "featured." By comparison, lead Grand Theft Auto studio Rockstar North is only has 20 open positions currently.
As you might expect, the job listings at Rockstar San Diego are very general and do not include any specific details regarding what the project might be. In addition, RocFor more on the original Red Dead Redemption, check out GameSpot's review.

PewDiePie, who manages the most subscribed YouTube channel in the world, said in a video update that he no longer saw the value in user comments as they were plagued by spam and arguments.
"I don't mean to offend you bros who show me support, but I don't see that same type of support anymore," he said.
"I know I complain about the comments a lot, but it's my main way to communicate with you bros. I go to the comments and it's mainly spam. It's people self-advertising. It's people who are trying to provoke.
"It's all this stuff that to me doesn't mean anything. I don't care about it. I don't want to see it. It's been bothering me for so long now. I've been trying to find solutions to it, and trying to find ways to make it better, and I'm just sick of it, so I'm going to turn the comments off forever. "
I go to the comments and it's mainly spam. It's people self-advertising.
PewDiePie said he hopes his subscribers understand his decision, and pointed out that he would be communicating via Twitter and Reddit henceforth.
The announcement comes as the internet celebrity announced that more than 30 million people have subscribed to his channel.
PewDiePie has gained tremendous popularity over the past several years by publishing various Let's Play videos online. Publishers and developers are beginning to note the commercial impact of his videos, with games featured on his channel often climbing in sales.
Skate 3, for example, has remained in the UK top 40 chart all year despite being released in 2010, primarily because PewDiePie continues to publish videos of the game. Publisher Electronic Arts decided to capitalise on this deal by printing more copies of the game.
The polemical mobile game Flappy Bird, meanwhile, became an overnight sensation after being featured on PewDiePie's channel.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson announced the news in a statement posted on the company's website. He says Bruzzo will lead marketing and communications efforts across web and digital platforms, all in the name of helping EA become a "players-first" company.
"Today, EA creates games and live services for players around the world on an ever-expanding range of platforms and unique ways to play," Wilson said. "Partnering with our development and technology teams, Chris will ensure we are delivering personal and meaningful experiences for players every time they connect with us and play an EA game."
Wilson sung Bruzzo's praises, calling him a "brand visionary." Prior to joining Starbucks, where he held various executive-level positions, Bruzzo spent nearly three years at online retail giant Amazon as its director of strategic communications.
"Chris is a great fit for our organization--a collaborator, innovator, and importantly, a gamer," Wilson said. "Chris is just as comfortable sharing stories about his days playing Escape from Rungistan and Ultima back in the early 1980s on his Apple IIE as he is debating tactics in FIFA, Battlefield, or Peggle. I'm thrilled to bring him on board at EA."
Bruzzo has a degree in political studies from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. In addition to his role as chief marketing officer at EA, Bruzzo currently serves on the board of directors of jewelry retailer Blue Nile.
EA's major marketing campaigns this year, for high-profile games like Madden NFL 15 and NHL 15, have been anything but traditional.
