Ubisoft has published an 11-minute Assassin's Creed Unity gameplay video, which highlights the game's "black boxes," missions that are designed to let players tackle objectives however they want. The mission you see in the video above, narrated by creative director Alex Amancio, is one of Unity protagonist Arno's first assignments.
"We give you an objective, and that's it," Amancio says. "No linear paths or narrow level design are forced upon you. You make your own opportunities."
"Paris is the biggest, densest, and most immersive city we have ever created" -- Alex Amancio
The Unity gameplay demo also highlights the game's new and improved freerunning elements, distraction tools like smoke bombs, as well as its stealth options, which Amancio says gives you "the silence and agility of a predator." The demo is set in Notre Dame, and it sounds like Ubisoft did not cut any corners in bringing the city to life.
"Paris is the biggest, densest, and most immersive city we have ever created," Amancio says. "All iconic landmarks in Assassin's Creed Unity have fully modeled custom interiors, all filled with various activities."
The video also shows off an absolutely brutal assassination that takes place in a church confessional, as well as the multi-layered nature of Paris. Amancio points out that there are multiple underground passageways in Unity, meaning you can enter a building from above and leave it through the underground. As a result, "the possibilities are endless," he says.
Assassin's Creed Unity launches October 28 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and. PC. Meanwhile, Assassin's Creed Rogue comes to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 11. We published previews for both games this week, which you can read through the links below.
