Windows 10's Internet Explorer Replacement, Project Spartan, Now Available to Test

Microsoft has released a preview version of Project Spartan, the company's upcoming browser that is set to replace Internet Explorer when Windows 10 arrives later this year.

Project Spartan, which will be the default Web browser for Windows 10, is available now through the latest Windows 10 Technical Preview for Windows Insider members. You can join this program here.

The new browser is available in the Windows 10 preview program through the "globe" icon on the taskbar. Features available right now include Cortana integration, a "reading view" option, and Web Note, which lets you scribble notes directly on the screen.

Of course, the Project Spartan build available now in the Windows 10 preview program is not finished. Additional features will be added later in advance of Windows 10's full launch this summer.

What's more, though Project Spartan (or whatever its final name turns out to be) will be the main Window 10 browser, Microsoft is not doing away entirely with Internet Explorer. This browser will still ship with Windows 10, but mostly for compatibility reasons, the company explained previously.

Windows 10 also features a new Xbox gaming app, which will not require Xbox Live Gold. Meanwhile, another marquee gaming feature for Windows 10 is that it will allow Xbox One games to stream to PCs and tablets running the new OS. In addition, Windows 10 supports cross-platform play, starting with Fable Legends.

Microsoft is offering Windows 10 as a free upgrade for existing Windows users, even if you pirated the operating system.
