Water-Themed Tropico 5 Expansion Launching Next Week, Watch Teaser Now

The first major expansion pack for city simulation game Tropico 5 has been announced, and you won't need to wait long to play it. The expansion is called Waterborne, and it arrives for PC on December 17.

As its name suggests, the Waterborne expansion for Tropico 5 features a range of water-based mechanics, a first for the long-running franchise. As the story goes, El Presidente is seeking to expand his reign by branching out to the sea to find "lucrative new industrial opportunities."

In Waterborne, players can build things like Oyster and Kelp farms, as well as tidal power plants and floating apartments, among other things. You'll also be able to launch military submarines or create new tourist attractions. In all, Waterborne will offer up a new campaign and story comprised of six missions, as well as four new island maps, nine new buildings and vehicles, and more avatar accessories and costumes.

Waterborne will be available through Steam and publisher Kalypso's own client on December 17. The expansion will cost £14.99/€19.99/$19.99. It's unclear if the expansion is coming to the Xbox 360 version of Tropico 5.
