With racing games in particular these days, downloadable content is the rule, not the exception, and Driveclub will be no different: The upcoming racer allows players to get new content post-release that expands the game. To help ensure the community sticks with the game, Sony and developer Evolution Studios will release free content--including tracks and maps--in addition to premium DLC.
Evolution's DLC plans were laid out today on the PlayStation Blog. In addition to delivering the gorgeous weather system and a photo mode for free, one free car will be released every month from this October through next June. "More new tracks" will join the 25 that ship with the game, and Evolution says they will all be free.
Beyond the free content, Evolution plans to offer "a full calendar of new release DLC that will run deep into 2015." These DLC releases will consist of more cars, campaign tour expansions, and trophies. They'll begin being released in November and can be purchased individually or as part of a season pass. Pricing for each pack wasn't announced, but the total cost adds up to $75.84, whereas the Season Pass, which gets you all of this DLC, is priced at $24.99. In addition to DLC, players can pay real-world money to unlock cars early.
If there's something in particular that fans want to see in future updates and DLC, Evolution will be receptive to feedback. "[O]ur post-launch development will be influenced by what you do in the game and the feedback you share with us," writes community manager Jamie Brayshaw. "New content, improvements, and updates will all be shaped by you and everyone you play with."
Driveclub was originally scheduled to launch alongside the PlayStation 4 before being delayed. It's now scheduled for release on October 7, and will have a trial version available for PlayStation Plus members. Plus members will also be entitled to a $10 discount.
