Atari has announced RollerCoaster Tycoon World, the next entry in the long-running and beloved amusement park simulation series. Launching in early 2015 for PC, the game includes a new track builder, more rides, and new cooperative multiplayer, in addition to a classic single-player mode.
"Many of the new features in RollerCoaster Tycoon World were not possible a few years ago, but we have taken advantage of technological improvements to offer a wildly fun gaming experience that stays true to the storied franchise," Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said in a statement.
"This is the game fans have been asking for," he added.
In RollerCoaster Tycoon World, like past entries in the series, you design an amusement park and determine what rides, attractions, and shops should be featured. New to the series for RollerCoaster Tycoon World is a mode where you can visit other player-created parks, and a new co-op option will let up to four players collaborate on the design for a single park.
The game is in development at Pipeworks (Zumba Fitness) and is scheduled to launch early next year as a "full premium PC experience, giving fans the ability to enjoy a micro-transaction free amusement park."
The RollerCoaster Tycoon series has sold millions of copies worldwide to date, Atari says. The most recent entry was this year's RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile for iOS devices. According to Atari, the game has achieved "superior app download rankings," though a specific download number was not shared.
