My first christmas console was the Atari 2600 back in '88. Mind you this was HUGE back then, since I lived in a small town in Brazil, far far away from the economic and political capitals (São Paulo and Brasilia) so technology usually was 5 to 10 years behind.
Then in 92, a miracle happened. My parents bought me my second and most lasting console ever. The Sega Genesis (still have that bad boy somewhere). Wonderful piece of technology. A huge step from my basic Atari. Even my 2 year old sister enjoyed that one. I remember her being around 3 and playing Ecco the Dolphin, or The Little Mermaid (yeah, we made sure to have some games for her as well)
After that I've bought all my other consoles, but I agree with you, that wonderful feeling of receiving that little piece of entertainment wrapped up in a technological casing is the best in the world. I still see that epic "OH MY GOD" face in my sister's whenever I buy a new console, or cool game for us.
