California senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) has apologized for telling gamers to "quiet down" in a recent interview, but also again criticized the game industry for hurting children.

"Gamers, I admittedly didn't use best words to [The San Francisco Chronicle]," he said on Twitter (via Game Politics). "Meant video game industry has inherent conflict of interest in the gun violence debate."

The politician said he knows and has respect for many gamers, but again pointed the finger at the game industry for making profits at the cost of children's health.

"I have a lot of respect for many gamers, " he added. "Many are on my staff and in my family--but the industry has profited at the expense of children."

Yee said last week that gamers have "no credibility" in the discussion surrounding violent video games. He said it is "all about their lust for violence and the industry's lust for money."

Yee is not the only politician taking aim at the game industry following December's deadly shooting in Newton, Conn. that left 20 children and six adults dead. Politicians in Washington, DC, as well as President Obama himself, have put forth legislation and orders aimed at examining violent entertainment and what role it may play in real-world violence.
